Diwal-O-Ween

OBJECTIVE:

Produce a culturally sensitive fusion celebration combining the South Asian holiday of Diwali with my favorite American holiday – Halloween. Celebrate heritage & appeal to younger, multicultural audiences without compromising the religious and traditional integrity of Diwali.

EXECUTION HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Developed the fusion theme “Diwal-O-Ween”, blending South Asian traditions with Western Halloween festivities.

  • Styled the venue with marigold garlands, diyas, and rangoli art alongside pumpkins, cobwebs, and fall décor.

  • Coordinated a costume contest with cultural twists, encouraging guests to express creativity across both traditions.

  • Curated on-theme food and drink stations with creatively branded names, merging festive flavors from both traditions.

  • Created themed return gifts that doubled as functional décor, extending the event experience beyond the celebration.

CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS:

  • Audience Diversity: Created programming that appealed to a multi-generational and multicultural crowd, from families to young professionals.
